Why is it that since i have become more religious things just keep getting worse?

You are basing your life situation on a false doctrine. When you begin to, or continue to follow the Lord, life doesn't mysteriously get easier. In fact, it is much more likely to get a lot more complicated, else Jesus wouldn't have said to carry your torture stake and follow Him. If anything, you have attracted Lucifer towards you and he is seeking to "devour" your salvation. This time of testing is what either makes or breaks the christian. Don't listen to false doctrines that promise you a life of ease and a new home/car. God has a plan for you, but first you must overcome the world, just as He did. It may take time, but you will come to see that God "in your life" means everything.
