BRUNCH? AFTER lunch?!?

Just what are your views on this? My ex friend said they were going to brunch and kept calling it brunch over and over but it was AFTER lunch NOT before lunch and after breakfast. I thought at first it was just a slip of the tongue or just not thinking but to repeatedly call it brunch when it clearly was not. I don't know why this annoyed me so badly but, what are your views on this? He could have just called it lunch or a meal or dinner or linner but brunch??? So many options and he picks that? If it was between breakfast and lunch it wouldn't have bothered me but it wasn't! Even if it was AT breakfast or AT lunch, it still would have made more sense.
